April 17, 2024: Many of our dear followers remember AmsterDog Alumna Ellie Mae - from her original posts on the Emergency Placement List to her many Adopt Me posts, and finally, thankfully, to the happiest Adopted posts - and by one of our longest, most special supporters, Jim! It turns out, Ellie Mae was waiting for the best dad all along. Sadly, after only a few short months together, Ellie Mae ingested sand which became impacted and required surgery to remove sections of her intestines. After surgery, Ellie Mae made it home for a few snuggles, but inside her incisions were becoming infected. With her bills jumping from $10,000 to $18,000 and now $25,000, Ellie Mae is in recovery from a secondary surgery but still has a long way to go. Please help Ellie Mae, Jim, and AmsterDog fight for her life!
Bear’s Story: Two days before Christmas 2023, young Bear was surrendered to the city shelter by the only family he had ever known. They reported that as a puppy, Bear had been injured when he was attacked by another dog, resulting in the amputation of this front right leg. Unfortunately, they were surrendering him for the same issue - Bear had the other resident dog’s bite marks all over his muzzle and back. Poor Bear was understandably terrified at the strange, chaotic shelter with so many other dogs barking all around him. And so, Bear was on the emergency placement list and at-risk for euthanasia. With hours to go, a foster thankfully stepped up to welcome Bear to safety! This angel, however, has a full stair case in her home, which Bear is having difficulty navigating downwards. Joel gets adopted! 3/8/2024
Adopting a pet changes everything… In February 2024, Joel’s shelter notes described a terrified stray dog with behavioral issues awaiting euthanasia. With only hours left and no options for Joel, we pushed him on social media. Thanks to the power of sharing, Jillian & Matthew fell in love with Joel’s post and swooped in with open arms and eyes only for Joel. They saved his life that day. Since then, Joel, now Barnabas, is a social, loving boy who wears dino pajamas! And is truly a testament to how a dog acts in the chaotic, overcrowded shelter does not mean they will not thrive in the right home. Grimlock is transported out of the shelter and on his way to a new life filled with love!
Prince does a regal strut leaving the shelter and heading to his loving foster home! Prince is currently Available for Adoption
The odds were stacked against senior XL bully Nobel, but this good boy is now in a cozy foster home.
Adopted Walnut gets some fresh air as a free dog with a wonderful new family.
Mylo was so grateful to make it out that he made sure to match his foster’s decor (now adopted)

Dobby & Kira
Thank you for joining us, Dobby, and Kira in the fight to save their lives! Jan/Feb 2024
Poor little Dobby was rescued 1/31/24 from the city shelter's emergency placement list with severe pneumonia and was transported directly to Mount Laurel Veterinary Hospital, where he received critical care. Sweet girl Kira suffered from pyometra, a severe and life-threatening infection of her uterus. She was stabilized at Ivy Pets Veterinarian and a few days later had a successful surgery to remove her uterus. Kira is healing well in her loving foster home. So well, in fact, that they have decided to officially adopt her! Congratulations, Kira and her new family!
Both treatments came at a high cost simultaneously - but AmsterDog did not hesitate when tender lives were on the line! With your help, we were able to get Dobby and Kira the critical veterinary care they both desperately needed. Thanks for caring about pets in need!
